The Spring Salon is steeped with tradition in Springville, Utah. The Springville Museum of Art began in 1903 with the donation of two works of art to Springville High School by artists Cyrus E. Dallin and John Hafen. Now renowned Utah artists such as James T. Harward, John B. Fairbanks and Mahonri M. Young donated additional pieces in coming years. The students become interested in art and collecting and began purchasing paintings and sculpture by raising money through the "Art Queen" program. Each student voted on their favorite potential Art Royalty with a penny vote.Today the traditions continue at the museum with the 99th Annual Spring Salon. The exhibition highlights artists from around the state and show cases their recent works. The Springville Museum Art Association chooses selected works to purchase from the Salon allowing additional art to become a part of the museum's permanent collection.
