For all you outdoorsmen (and women!), every Thursday, I will be highlighting different hiking and biking trails for you to enjoy this summer!
This week's featured trail is the Stewart Cascades Trail by Sundance Resort.
The Stewart Cascades Trails leads to Stewart Falls, a waterfall on the eastern side of Mount Timpanogos. The 200 feet tall waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area with two tiers of water rushing down the mountainside. You can hike up to the base of the falls and cool down with the ice cold spray of the falls.
To get to the trailhead, take the Alpine Loop Road to Aspen Grove. Past the Forest Service pay station there is a parking lot with public restrooms. Then head north from the restrooms to the trailhead. There are multiple trails beginning at this point but look for the sign that says Stewart Cascades.
The hike is about 4 miles roundtrip and relatively easy. The most difficult parts are the beginning and the end of the trail. You start going uphill to get to the ridge. Also, the final descent to the base of the falls is steep. The hike has plenty of beautiful trees. The hike also features some stunning vistas of the falls, Sundance, and Mount Timpanogos. It's a great hike that perfect for families with older kids and beginning hikers.
I would recommend doing this hike earlier in the morning. The parking lot can fill up quickly, especially on the weekends.
So the next time you're in the mood for a hike, definitely check out the Stewart Cascades Trail!
