If you're like me, you love Mexican food and the delicious flavors that come with it, but you're also worried about avoiding unhealthy ingredients. If I just decribed you, then Mountain West Burrito is the place for you. I was able to eat there on Friday and let me tell you, I love the fact that all of their food is made fresh using local, never-packaged ingredients. Everything from their meats to their rice is homemade and all-natural.

During my visit to Mountain West, I was able to sit down with one of the owners, Joseph McRae. Joseph and his friend Colton Soelberg are also the owners of Communal and Pizzeria 712, and this restaurant shares the same emphasis on "buying local." Joseph told us that Mountain West Burrito is "nothing fancy, just great home cookin'," and I would have to agree with that.

I ordered the pork burrito (a popular favorite) and the nachos (not as famous, but equally tasty). I have to say, the pork was tender and flavorful, and the tortilla chips were over-the-top amazing. All of the chips are made fresh in the restaurant, and they have the perfect amount of both crispness and salt to create the ultimate chip! If meat is not your thing, never fear, Mountain West has vegetarian and vegan options available too.

Aside from the deliecious food, I have to comment on the welcoming, laid-back atmosphere. The inside of the resturant is vibrant with bright colors and pictures of local Utah Valley landmarks. I couldn't help but feel relaxed while enjoying my meal, and I felt like propping my feet up and sitting back in my chair, just like I would at my own house. It definitely feels like a great place to just hangout with friends.

Mountain West Burrito is open 11 AM-9 PM Monday-Thursday, 11 AM-10 PM Friday-Saturday, and closed on Sunday. They're located at 1976 N 950 W in Provo (on State Street just before you cross into Orem). As far as the price, you can get a street taco for $2 or a giant burrito for $13, so it just depends on how hungry you are. My advice would be to get small portions of a couple different entrees so you can enjoy more of a variety.

I know a lot of out-of-staters who have migrated here to Utah Valley for school. I always hear my out-of-state friends talking about how much they love Chipotle, but I would venture to say that Mountain West Burrito is an even better version of Chipotle because it's local and homemade! Do yourself a favor and visit Mountain West Burrito--your tastebuds will thank you.
